IYDC-2019 Diary: Day 1

On July 6, the Second International Young Designers Contest launched in Kyiv. The capital of Ukraine is hosting IYDC for the second year in a row. This year’s finalists are young talented designers, representing 10 countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Same as last year, Aloft Kiev has become a partner and the official hotel of IYDC. The three day program of the Contest is extremely rich. Just after arrival at the hotel, the participants with the organizing team stared fitting their collections. As soon as the fitting sessions were over, the participants attended a  lecture on fashion design and visual arts – “The Shape of Color” by Giovanni Ottonello, professor, Creative Director of IED – Istituto Europeo di Design. Professor Ottonello is a returning lecturer to Kyiv, where his sessions are always popular, as each of his lectures is not only professionally informative,  but also presents an original  interpretation of seemingly traditional topics and encourages constant professional self-education. His latest lecture was no exception, the conference hall barely accommodated all those who wanted to attend.

The next item in the program was the Fashion Visual Art Residence, it started immediately after the lecture was over. Together with the curator of the residence and Professor Govani Ottonello, the participants selected the garments from their collections for the fashion photo shooting session scheduled for the next day. Additionally, young photographers from Ukraine and Moldova joined the designers to discuss concept ideas for fashion photo stories.

Another partner of the Contest, Health and Food Kyiv, took care of the nutrition of the contestants to help the participants to concentrate on their creative tasks.
